Widening employment opportunities for young people

Islington Council and Angel Islington BID are keen to boost job opportunities for young people. Two recent initiatives to help connect businesses with talent from the local area included a speed networking event and work placements at Islington Central shopping centre.

Last month Islington Council teamed up with Big Sky Studios for an employment and skills fair – the Creative Pathways Careers event which focused on jobs in the creative industries. Seven organisations took part including the King’s Head Theatre, Ragi Dholakia Productions and Small Green Shoots (pictured here). The 20 young people who attended have all either been able to access work placements or get support towards making applications.

In a separate initiative, the Islington Council-funded Your Choice Programme (see our July newsletter), organises paid work experience opportunities over the summer. As part of this, Islington Square shopping centre provided three placements in retail. Additionally, CIS Security offered young people keen to work in the security sector the chance to apply for posts with them and one has secured a role at Islington Square.

Angel Islington BID is keen to expand the range of youth employment and skills opportunities available with the Council. Email Jan at jan@angel.london if your business would like to get involved.
