SAFER – Met Police launch new ‘BE SAFE’ campaign

The Metropolitan Police has launched a new campaign entitled ‘BE SAFE’ to highlight the issue of smart phone theft, often by thieves on two wheeled vehicles.

Criminals use scooters and bikes to snatch phones and valuables, often riding up behind their victims and mounting the pavement. They target busy streets, tube and bus stations.  Police are doing all they can to arrest and deter these thieves, but it is important to spread the word about how you and your colleagues can help to protect your phone and valuables by following three simple steps:

  1. Be aware of your surroundings –use your phone away from the roadside, ideally near a wall so that its harder for thieves to snatch.
  2. Look up, look out
  3. Protect you phone– activate its security features.

In Angel, posters will be going up around the BID area to remind people of the dangers of phone snatch theft and businesses are encouraged to display posters in your businesses, whether that’s a staff room, window or toilet.  A poster can be downloaded here: https://www.met.police.uk/SysSiteAssets/media/downloads/met/campaigns/be-safe/mobile-phone/be-safe-snatch-theft-a5-poster.pdf

A full toolkit for businesses relating to the campaign is available here: Mobile Phone Theft Partner Toolkit

And, don’t forget, if your would like to host a free mobile phone ‘pop-up’ session run by the Angel Police Team (which is funded by angel.london) in your reception area or canteen, please contact us at christine@angel.london and we can arrange a time to suit.  Organisations including Sadler’s Wells and the Angel Building have already taken advantage of this to benefit their staff and visitors.
