Proposed road changes affecting the Angel – St Mary’s People Friendly Streets scheme

04 November 2021 – Islington Council is planning to implement a People-Friendly Streets (PFS) Scheme in the St Mary’s Church area in December 2021. The proposals are likely to impact on traffic flows and deliveries for businesses in the Angel.

Information on the Scheme

The proposed St Mary’s Church PFS Scheme is bordered (running clockwise from the north) by: Canonbury Lane, Canonbury Square, Canonbury Road, Essex Road and Upper Street.

Within the defined PFS area traffic will be restricted or redirected through the use of ‘traffic filters’ that will be camera enforced. Penalties will be given to drivers who fail to adhere to the filters (exemptions will apply for Blue Badge holders).

The Council hand-delivered a consultation letter giving details on the Scheme to businesses within, and on the boundary, of the Scheme in the last week. A copy of the letter is available to view HERE.

The Council is planning to introduce the Scheme in early December 2021.
