Government announces £1billion in support for businesses most impacted by Omicron

21 December – The Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced a range of grant support for businesses most impacted by the effects of Omicron. The schemes announced are:

  • Businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors in England will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £6,000 per premises
  • More than £100 million discretionary funding will be made available for local authorities to support other businesses

As noted above, the funding will be distributed through Local Authorities.

The Chancellor has also announced:

  • Government will cover the cost of Statutory Sick Pay for Covid-related absences for small and medium-sized employers across the UK. A factsheet on the duration, eligibility critera and payment processes for this is available HERE
  • £30 million further funding will be made available through the Culture Recovery Fund
