Double win for Chapel Market in 2023 trader awards
Chapel Market vendors Adrian Serrano and John Papworth have been recognised in Islington Council’s annual Market Trader of the Year competition, as voted for by the public.
Mr Serrano’s paella stall, La Real Paella, which only received its licence in March, was awarded ‘Street Food Trader of the Year’, while Mr Papworth won ‘Trader of the Year’ for his greengrocer business, which first started trading at Chapel Market 55 years ago. Both were rewarded with £250 off their stall rent.
Councillor Santiago Bell-Bradford, Islington Council’s Executive Member for Inclusive Economy and Jobs, congratulated the pair, adding: “Our street markets are treasured places for local people to meet and the fantastic independent traders are an important part of that heritage. Together, we all want to see our markets flourish and for businesses old and new to prosper and thrive.”
The Market Trader of the Year competition is open to traders directly licensed by Islington Council, including those at Camden Passage, Chapel Market, Exmouth Market and Whitecross Street, as well as street traders in other locations across the borough.
