Burst water main on Upper Street – the situation at 7pm

Just updating you regarding tonight’s situation, as of 7pm.

The passage will stay cordoned off but there will be two police officers posted at either end all night, for safety and reassurance. Other officers will be patrolling locally.

Thames water have now officially taken over the clean up operation, and we will be working with them tomorrow to help in any way we can. Islington Council have given UK Power Networks and Thames water permission to work throughout the night – so far 50% of the safety checks have been undertaken in businesses and homes. UP Power is hoping to restore power back to the passage within the next few hours, although be prepared for only partial power if your wiring has been damaged.

We were unable to secure a dedicated Thames Water hotline for businesses. There is however a call back number

– they will return your call asap if you leave your name, number and detail 0800 316 9800.

If you haven’t yet received a Customer Record form to report damage to Thames Water loss adjustors, call us tomorrow 020 7288 4377 for one.

Thames Water will have a team on site tomorrow assessing damage and offering advice where they can. Follow their updates on twitter @thameswater

Thank you to angel.london businesses The Steam Passage pub, CoffeeWorks Project and The Business Design Centre for their warm welcome and recovery centres for everyone affected by the water. They were very gratefully received and we are delighted that community spirit is very much alive and well at the Angel.
