Angel Pubwatch – Latest
The Licensing Security and Vulnerability Initiative (SAVI) scheme and Martyn’s Law, new legislation protecting the public from the risk of terrorism, were among topics discussed at Angel Pubwatch’s August meeting.
Attendees learnt more about SAVI, a self-assessment tool to help owners and operators of licensed premises create a safe and secure environment for everyone. For a limited time, there is a 25% discount for businesses quoting GETSAVI when they apply. The council licensing team also reminded the meeting that Islington Council has a best practice scheme for those who pay the late night levy and if successful, businesses receive a discount of 30% on their fees. More details here.
There was also discussion about the ending of relaxation of the licensing law on off-sales (where alcohol is allowed to be consumed off the premises) as this was due to finish at the end of September. However, since the Pubwatch meeting on August 1, the Government announced it would be extending the rules for another 18 months.
Pubwatch Angel is chaired by one of the area’s licensees and is always attended by the police and council licensing teams who are on hand to provide updates and answer questions. The next meeting of Angel Pubwatch will be on October 3 at 4pm, at a venue to be confirmed. For more information email Jan at jan@angel.london.
