Armed Forces Day

Angel marks Armed Forces Day

Islington paid tribute to serving personnel and veterans on Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

The national event, which annually shines a spotlight on the work of current and former servicepeople, reserves and cadets, was marked locally with a range of information stalls on Islington Green.

Here, people could chat to representatives of Islington Veterans Association, the Royal British Legion (RBL) and the Royal Air Force’s 9F and 239 Air Cadet units. Mayor of Islington, Councillor Gary Heather also popped along to have a chat and support RBL’s Poppy Appeal.

Leoni and Gerry from Angel BID joined the celebrations, and the area’s businesses also supported the event with Tesco, Waitrose, Vent! and Fox on the Green donating delicious refreshments.

Organisers reported a healthy day of fundraising with £124.40 collected for the Poppy Appeal.
