Squatters at the Angel

Four empty commercial properties in Upper Street are being squatted, and while eviction proceedings are currently underway, it’s a time-consuming and expensive process.

While we don’t have much control over the number of empty premises in the BID area, we are determined to prevent as many of those being squatted as possible.

Renting out your property as a pop-up is a solution, and so we have teamed up with local charity the Camden Trust to match up suitable short-term tenants with landlords. The pop-up will even pay your business rates for the length of the agreement – surely a no-brainer.

It’s important to act on this quickly if your premise is vacant. The latest property to be squatted was taken over just last week, despite us writing to the managing agents some time ago to offer our services.

Squatters make a mess of properties, town centres become less attractive and create a perception that an area is unsafe. We are closely monitoring the situation and are working with our police team to keep track of what is happening day-to-day.
